WASHINGTON (WUSA) -A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Wednesday to celebrate the completion of a $27 million project, which modernized Turner Elementary School in D.C.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray joined city officials to discuss the educational achievements that the modernization project has made for D.C. students and teachers.

The project featured a complete renovation of the existing school building along with new classrooms equipped with smart boards and computers, new indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, and handicap accessibility.

"The transformation of Turner Elementary School is a tremendous example of the strides we are making as a District to provide students, educators, and families with state-of-the-art learning facilities that demonstrate how much we value our children's education," said Mayor Gray in a press release.
