25 Vehicles Pulled Over at DUI Checkpoint

 

The Howard County Department of Police conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday, August 19, 2011 into the morning hours of Saturday, August 20th.  The Checkpoint was established on eastbound MD Rt. 175 at Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia.

844 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was manned by Howard County Police Officers and Maryland State Police Troopers. Representatives of the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) were also in attendance.

 Twenty Five (25) vehicles were pulled over for further examination and Ten (10) drivers were arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. Two drivers were arrested for a drug violation.

Police Make Arrest in Attempt Murder/Arson Investigation in Lanham

Prince George’s County, Maryland: The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District II Investigative Section has arrested Deanthony Nathan Bagley, 23, of the 600 block of 64th Avenue in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, in connection with the arson and attempted murder of a family yesterday morning in Lanham, Maryland.

Bagley has been charged with five counts of attempted 1st degree murder, one count of 1st degree assault, five counts of 1st degree arson, and one count of 2nd degree arson.  He is currently remanded to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections and is being held on a no-bond status.

72-Year-Old Man Convicted of Incest and Sexual Child Abuse

 

 A Charles County jury convicted DONALD RICHARD TWIGG, 72 years of age, of Incest, Child Sexual Abuse and other charges for repeatedly sexual assaulting his daughter beginning in 1971 through 1979.  The victim was between 7 and 15 years of age during that period.

Police Make Two Arrests in Fatal Stabbing in Riverdale

On July 14, 2011, at approximately 12:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 6200 block of 64th Avenue for a report of a cutting.  Upon arrival, the victim told officers that he was assaulted and stabbed in the parking lot while walking his dog.  Adkisson was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and eventually lapsed into a coma.  Adkisson died on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, from injuries sustained from the assault.

Ferguson is charged with first degree murder and is being held on a no bond status.  Gails is charged with second degree murder and is being held on a $750,000 bond.  Robbery appears to be the motive.

Investigators will canvass the area along the 6300 block of 64th Avenue in Riverdale on Thursday, August 4, 2011, from 11 a.m. to noon, to try and find additional witnesses to the incident.  The lead detective in the case will be there and available for comment.

WANTED FUGITIVE: The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Daniel Thomas Wilson, Jr., 30, of Waldorf who is wanted for violation of probation on a robbery charge and failing to pay child support. Wilson is also wanted by the Maryland Department of Corrections for violation of probation and he has an open warrant from the Cumberland Police Department for obstructing justice.

 

Wilson is 6’2” and weighs about 195 pounds. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Child Support Unit at (301) 932-3057 during business hours or (301) 932-2222 at any time.

DEATH INVESTIGATION: On May 17 at about 2:23 a.m., officers responded to the railroad tracks near Industrial Park Drive in Waldorf for the report of a person struck by a train. A preliminary investigation showed the victim was sitting on the train tracks when he was struck. The operator of the CSX train stopped but the man was deceased. His body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The decedent has been identified as Jose Ramirez-Lopez, 43, of Waldorf. It is not known why he was on the train tracks but witnesses indicated he had been consuming alcohol prior to being struck. Anyone with additional information should contact Detective G. Higgs at (301) 609-6498. The investigation is continuing.

 

May 3rd Charles County Incident Report

MAN CHARGED WITH RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT: On May 3 at 12:55 a.m., officers responded to Ell Lane in Waldorf for the sound of gunshots. When officers arrived, they found James Ronald Lee, 23, of Brandywine, hiding in a wooded area with a shotgun. Officers continued searching the complex and found spent rounds from a semi-automatic handgun in the parking lot. A preliminary investigation revealed Lee may have been involved in a dispute with a known subject and during the dispute, a gun was fired. At this time, there have been no reports of anyone being injured and no reports of any damage to property. Officers are continuing the investigation and anyone with additional information should call Officer Gilroy at (301) 932-7777.
